EXPERIENCES
Students participate in experiences that align with class curriculum.  These experiences are generally off-site and include things like service learning, business tours, job site demonstrations, museums and other fun ways to learn about the world.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

  • School community building activities with a focus on the environment

  • Learning the 7 principles of Leave No Trace (LNT)

  • Recycling programming at school

  • Topics woven into curriculum

  • Field trips (Franconia Sculpture Garden, Urban Roots gardens, local farms, state parks, downtown St. Paul waterfront)

  • Overnight trips!

    • Students can choose to take part in environmentally-focused overnight trips. These include fall and spring trips to Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center, camping trips at Taylors Falls, Afton State Park, and Steger Wilderness Center (on the edge of the Boundary Waters in Ely, MN).

AAHS Environmental Citizenship Plan

  • Students at Academic Arts High School have the awareness, or are increasing their awareness, of the relationship between the environment and human life.

  • Students at Academic Arts High School have the knowledge, or are increasing their knowledge, of human and natural systems and processes.

  • Students at Academic Arts High School have an attitude, or are increasing their attitude of, appreciation and concern for the environment.

  • Students at Academic Arts High School have or are increasing their problem solving and critical thinking skills as it relates to the environment and human life.

  • Students at Academic Arts High School demonstrate the capacity, or are increasing their capacity, to work individually and collectively toward sustaining a healthy natural environment.
